Theme 4: Animal Habitats
We are still reading Seal Surfer, about a boy's relationship with the sea and a certain seal. Below are this story's skills that your kids will be focusing on. At the end of the story, your child will be tested on the grammar skill, vocabulary words and definitions, and structural analysis below. Please study these skills for the test.
This week's Reading Skills: Summarize and Compare/Contrast
We will be reading pieces of information summarizing the main idea while looking at similarities and differences between characters in the story.
This week's Word Work:
Spelling/Phonics: Added endings to base words. *If your child has difficulty in spelling, daily practice using the spelling rules will help establish patterns in their minds when spelling. Once they recognize the patterns in spelling, spelling becomes easier.
Structural Analysis: Adding -ed and -ing to words
Adding these endings to words changes the tense of the word.
Vocabulary Skill: Dictionary:
Looking at a dictionary to see the multiple meanings of words. When there is more than one meaning, each new meaning usually has a different part of speech.
This Week's Writing, Grammar and Language Skills:
Grammar: Helping Verbs:
These words are adding before certain verbs to help with the tense of the verb. The helping vers we are looking at are has and have.
Writing: Writing a Poem:
Kids will practice looking at artwork with me and learning how to write a detailed poem.
