Trustee Area Map

The Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education recently changed, effective for the November 2016 Board elections, from at-large elections to trustee area elections, in which board candidates in each area will be elected only by voters who reside in that specific trustee area.

In this transition, the district initiated the creation of election areas that would be roughly equal in population and in compliance with state law, the Federal Voting Rights Act, and the United States Constitution. Using data from the 2010 Census, the district’s consultant, Dolinka Group, created two conceptual trustee area scenarios that divided the district into five new voting areas. The process included hosting a series of public forums to collect community input regarding the two proposed area maps and allowing community members to view the two conceptual trustee area scenarios and provide comments. Following community input, the Board of Education chose the final map at its meeting on October 21, 2014.
