Welcome to the 2006 – 2007 school year! I am very excited to be back at Evans Elementary School for my third year as your principal. For those families new to Evans School, this is the beginning of my 11th school year as an elementary school administrator all with Garden Grove Unified School District. I cannot think of a better school to work at than Evans, and I would like to welcome everyone back for another exciting year at our school. As we start out, please mark two important events on your calendar. First, we have Back to School Night scheduled on September 28th. This is a great opportunity to get to know your child’s teacher and to be aware of expectations and requirements for your child this year. If you are not able to attend, please make an effort to communicate with your child’s teacher. The second event is our Parent Conference week scheduled from October 23rd through the 30th. This is a time to discuss your child’s strengths and areas of academic/social needs. At this meeting you and your child’s teacher will establish goals for the school year. This is a very important meeting, and I trust that you will make every effort to attend this conference. In this age of school accountability, I find it imperative to discuss the importance of home/school communication and support. It is my philosophy that to successfully educate a child it requires a coordinated effort of the school, home and child. When all three are working together, the child receives the best possible education that can be provided. Beginning this school year, our daily schedule has changed to accommodate a weekly staff development time for our teachers. Each Wednesday our teachers will meet to plan together, look at student data, discuss best educational practices, learn about effective instructional techniques and work together to develop the best educational environment for our students. In order to do this, we have changed our daily schedule. Please be aware of the following changes from last year’s schedule:
As a parent, I understand the daily demands society places on us. Some of you may look at your home calendar and wonder, “How do I get to everything today?” Now with this letter, I am asking you to step up and take on the greatest demand of your time – your child and his/her education. You are your child’s first and best teacher. Discuss with them daily about their day at school, what they learned, who they played with, what was exciting/not so exciting about their day, what homework do they have, etc. Show your excitement, get to know your child’s teacher, be a cheerleader, and PLEASE talk about school on a daily basis. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to come into the office for assistance. Sincerely,
Wayne Kelley Principal |
