Garden Grove Police Department visited Garden Park Elementary School to help kick off Red Ribbon Week. Sherry Hess and her words of wisdom and encouragement were well received. |
Tuesday was wear red day. Red shirts, red shorts, red socks, red caps and red shoes were worn by many in support of Red Ribbon Week. The class with the most individuals (i.e. students and teachers) wearing red were treated with an ice cool Popsicle party. |

On Wednesday, all students who wore red were treated with a "smartie" treat or a delicious Hershey's kiss. For the second day in a row, we saw nothing but a sea of red on the playground. What an awesome site to see so many students in support of a drug free life style. |
Wearing your clothes on backwards on Thursday was one of our fun ways to show the world around us that we have elected to be drug free. |

Here is a picture of the group of students who cretiqued every Red Ribbon Week classroom door. After what seemed like hours of discussions, this awesome team of judges selected three Red Ribbon Week doors as the top three for 2008. The top three choices were: room x, room y, and room z. |

In addition to wearing red, wearing our clothes backwards, signing a pledge to be drug free, and decorating our classroom door, we held a change drive. The money raised was to be used to purchase one or more trees throughout our school. Our change drive mantra was "Plant a tree and be drug free!" The class that brought in the largest sum of money were give the awesome responsibility of selecting the location(s) where the trees will be planted. The weekly efforts of our student council, our Red Ribbon Week coordinator and teachers helped us collect over $125. Thank you for your pledges to be drug free and for planting a wonderful tree. |
Many of our elementary school students tied red ribbons on the parking lot fence behind the school, tied red ribbons around trees and benches. This activity was done in honor and rememberance of deputy Kiki Camarena and his efforts to make a difference in the war against drug usage. These red ribbons also symbolize our commitment and dedication to be drug free.
