Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) is celebrating its more than 2,000 classified employees during Classified Employee Week from May 21 through May 25. Classified employees include administration, clerical, data control, fiscal, food service, instructional assistance, maintenance, grounds, and transportation trades as well as printing services, secretarial, warehouse, information technology workers, and others.

“Our classified employees are often behind the scenes doing the work necessary to keep our district running each day, and they are essential to the success of GGUSD,” said Bob Harden, GGUSD Board of Education president. “Classified employees play an integral role in providing our teachers with the tools, instructional assistance, and supplies they need to teach our students and are instrumental in keeping our schools safe and clean.”

In order to serve the needs of 43,000 students, classified employees invest hard work and valuable skills each and every day. In fact, each school year, GGUSD bus drivers travel approximately 850,000 miles; food service workers serve more than 5 million meals including 410 pounds of fruits and vegetables; and GGUSD’s warehouse supplies and delivers more than 238,000 #2 pencils and enough toilet paper to span 20.7 million football fields.

GGUSD employs approximately 100 school Bus Drivers, more than 600 Instructional Aides, 200 Maintenance & Operations employees, 140 Language/Community Outreach employees, more than 300 secretarial/clerical staff, 350 Food Service workers, and 70 Technology Support employees, among others.

GGUSD recently began an Employee of the Month program honoring one certificated and one classified employee each month which includes recognition at a Board of Education meeting, profiles posted on our website, as well as having their pictures displayed in the lobby of the district office. The Employee of the Month program is designed to recognize employees who: put others first; go above and beyond to make a difference in their role; carry out each day with a positive attitude and strong work ethic and demonstrate innovation, leadership, and passion for their job.
