ATTENDANCE AND TARDY POLICIES

ARRIVING AND LEAVING SCHOOL

Please arrive at school after 8:10. If you eat a school breakfast, you are permitted to be in the breakfast line at 7:50. No student is to be in the quads before 8:10. Students are not allowed on campus before 8:10 or after 2:25. If you are involved in an afterschool activity such as tutoring, afterschool sports, or a club meeting, you are expected to leave campus no later than 15 minutes after the activity ends. Loitering on campus is against the law. If you leave campus, you are not to return until the following day.

REQUIRED ATTENDANCE

School attendance is mandatory. If you are absent for part or all of a school day you are to take a written explanation to the Attendance Clerk. Phone calls home will be made if necessary. Failure to bring a note will result in a truancy and detention.

TYPES OF ABSENCES

Excused ~ Valid reasons for an absence include: illness, medical or dental appointments, or death in the immediate family. If possible try to schedule appointments after school.
Unexcused ~ Absences for personal or family business, including vacations.
Truancy ~ Absent without permission. You will be assigned detention for each class you miss. Excessive absences may result in a referral to SARB held at the Garden Grove Police Department.

IRVINE TARDY POLICY

It is very important for you to be in class on time. When you are late, you miss valuable instruction and disrupt class. You must be in class when the bell rings. Your teachers will explain their tardy policy to you. Tardies are recorded through each semester.

TARDY # PROCEDURES

1	Teacher handles in any appropriate manner.
2	Phone contact by teacher or letter sent home.
3	Referral to Counselor, parents are notified.
4	Referral to Assistant Principal, parents are notified, and detention is assigned.
5+	Possible multi-day detention, in-house suspension, referral to SARB, transfer to another school

ATTENDANCE/CLOSED CAMPUS

Irvine is a closed campus. Once you have arrived at school, you may not leave without proper authorization from the office until the end of the school day. In addition, you are not allowed on any other school campus during school hours. Your parents and guardians are always welcome. However, all visitors must register in the school office to receive a pass. All others will be asked to leave. Failure to comply may result in arrest.
