DRESS STANDARDS

Irvine Intermediate has an established dress code.  Your dress and grooming should be neat, clean, and appropriate for your participation in school activities.  Your dress and/or grooming should not cause distractions or create a health/safety hazard to yourself or others.  If you wear inappropriate clothes, you will be referred to the office and may be required to wear our “Dress Code Violation” clothes, have clothes brought from home, and/or assigned detention.  Our dress code is designed around what a student cannot wear, giving them freedom to choose from the vast array of acceptable clothes.

YOU MAY NOT WEAR THE FOLLOWING:

• Items of clothing which depict or promote the illegal, immoral or obscene items, specifically those which refer to gangs, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex, or have obscenities.
• Tops or blouses that show the midriff or cut too revealing, shorts that come to the mid-calf or below, dangling belts, and/or initial belt buckles.
• Hats*, hairnets, bandanas, hoods, caps, gloves, or hair that presents a disruption in the classroom.
• Baggy clothing, including oversized shirts and/or pants, pants with unsewn hems.
• Articles of clothing or ornaments that can be considered dangerous or disruptive to a classroom.
• Hoop earrings that present a danger to the wearer or others.
• Piercings in other areas of the body.

*Exception: Due to a medical condition, with a physician’s note, a student may purchase and wear an Irvine hat.
