Welcome to 2012 second semester! Fall semester was successful, now time to work towards graduation! English I A major goal of this course is to stimulate thinking and personal response through active, creative use of all of the language arts. Compostition is intergrated with critical thinking, reading, listening. and speaking skills through a standards-based program. English II A major goal of this course is to stimulate thinking and personal response through active, creative use of all of the language arts. Compostition is intergrated with critical thinking, reading, listening. and speaking skills through a standards-based program. English III Emphasis is placed on the intergration of listening, speaking, writing, and critical thinking skills through a standards-based program. Using research-based strategies, students are guided in the interpretation and analysis of selected works in American Literature. English IV Emphasis is placed on the intergration of listening, speaking, writing, and critical thinking skills through a standards-based program. Persuasive essays, interpretation of literary works, and critical research papers receive major focus, as well as narrative and expository writing. Publications The school's yearbook is designed, published, and sold in this course. Students must be able to assume responsibility, meet deadlines, develop consistent work habits, and work effectively with others. Theme, layout, picture schedules, advertising promotions, financial accounting, copy writing, art design, photography, and record maintenance are key components. Academy This elective course is designed for students who are considered at-risk due to low performance and GPA. Students selected will typically be those performing at or above the basic band of performance on California Standards Tests, but having completed grade 8 or 9 with GPAs below 2.0 Digital Photography This course provides a variety of experiences ranging from basic photography skills to developing, designing, printing and enlarging, exposure, photojournalism and various types of camera operation using digital and /or film. Historical and cultural aspects of the subject are discussed. Students develop skills that promote aesthetic judgment and critical analysis.
