Dear Russell School Families, 

It is a pleasure to welcome you back to another year at Russell Elementary School!  We are ready to start a new year and continue to promote programs and activities to make this school year exciting and productive.  The Garden Grove Unified School District provides a comprehensive academic program designed to meet State Curriculum Standards.  Your children will be taught by professional teachers devoted to providing excellent and challenging academic programs, while offering opportunities for students to develop socially.  Dedicated personnel working in the office, in the classrooms and on the playground provide effective support in creating a positive environment for our Russell students.   

This year is going to be great.  We at Russell want to thank all of you for your support of your child(ren) throughout the year.  We are proud of the effort our students put forward on the state testing this past spring.  You should have received your individual child’s results in the mail.  Please take time to talk to your child and tell them how proud you are of their growth.  

This year we are once again focused and ready to go.  Once school starts we will be reviewing it with teachers, students, and parents.  We will also be talking about how these test results tie into our two district goals.  There is still a lot of work that we want to do and we believe that our kids can do it! This year we will continue to participate in the districts SWIM model.  SWIM stands for School Wide Instructional Model.  In this instructional model teachers will collaborate on an on-going basis using data to assess where students are and then group the students in flexible grouping. Once the student needs are understood teachers monitor their growth and modify their instruction to best support the students. 

Our teachers at Russell are the best and they are a very important parts of your child’s life.  Please make the time to meet your child’s teacher and find out how you can help.  We need you to support them with their homework and discipline plans.  We will also be sending you a lot of different information throughout the year on how you can help your child.  Please be on the look out for this information and for invitations to attend parent meetings.   

We can be proud of what we have achieved at Russell.  We have set high expectations and will strive with our best effort to achieve them.  Our success will depend on the commitment of teamwork from students, teachers, and parents.  I look forward to working with each of you this school year.

Bienvenidos Russell Estudiantes, Padres, y Amigos,

                                                                                      1 de septiembre del 2009 Estimadas Familias de la Escuela Russell, 

Es un placer darles la bienvenida  a otro año en Russell!  Estamos listos para empezar el año nuevo y continuaremos a promover programas y actividades para hacer este año escolar exitoso y productivo.  El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Garden Grove proveer un programa académico comprensivo.  Sus niños recibirán clase de maestros profesionales y dedicados a proveer excelentes programas académicos, a la misma vez ofrecerles oportunidades para que los estudiantes se desarrollen socialmente. El personal de la oficina, salones y patio de recreo están dedicados para proveer apoyo efectivo para crear un ambiente positivo para los estudiantes de Russell.    

Este año va ser fabuloso! Nosotros aquí en Russell queremos darles las gracias por apoyar a su hijo(a) durante le año.  Estamos muy orgullosos del esfuerzo que hicieron nuestros estudiantes en el examen estatal este año pasado. Ya deben de ver recibido la información del examen del estado por el correo.  Por favor tome el tiempo de decirle a su hijo(a) que Ud. esta muy orgulloso del progreso que han hecho. 

Este año una vez más estamos enfocados y listos para progresar.  Cuando empiece las clases estaremos repasando los resultados con maestros, estudiantes, y padres.  También hablaremos sobre los resultados de estos exámenes y como se comparan con las dos metas del distrito.  Todavía hay mucho trabajo por hacer, nuestros estudiantes lo pueden hacer!   Este año vamos a continuar nuestra participación en un modelo de instrucción del distrito llamado SWIM.  SWIM significa Modelo de Instrucción para Toda la Escuela.  En éste modelo de instrucción los maestros trabajan juntos cada semana usando resultados de diferente exámenes para colocar estudiantes en grupos pequeños.  Una vez que las necesidades de los estudiantes son entendidos los maestros vigilan su crecimiento y modifican su instrucción para poder sostener mejor a los estudiantes. 

Nuestros maestros aquí en Russell son los mejores y son una de las partes más importantes de la vidas de sus hijos(as).  Por favor tome el tiempo de venir a conocer al maestro(a) de su hijo(a).  Nosotros pedimos su apoyo con la tarea y el plan de disciplina.  Durante el año Ud. recibirá información en cómo ayudar a su hijo(a).  Por favor este al tanto de estos anuncios y invitaciones a juntas de padres. 

Podemos estar orgullosos de lo que hemos alcanzado en Russell.  Hemos puesto metas y expectativas altas y lucharemos con nuestro mayor esfuerzo para alcanzar las.  Nuestro éxito depende del compromiso de trabajar juntos como un equipo, los estudiantes, maestros, y padres.  Espero ansiosamente trabajar con todos Uds. este año escolar.
