Garden Grove City Council Recognizes Success of GGUSD’s Dual Language Academy

Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) received a special recognition during the City of Garden Grove council meeting last night for GGUSD’s successful launch of the Spanish dual immersion program at Monroe Language Academy. 
 
The Monroe Elementary Language Academy held its first day of school in September with more than 170 transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade students beginning their journeys to becoming bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural.

Among those presented with certificates honoring their support for Monroe Elementary Language Academy included Board of Education Trustee Teri Rocco, GGUSD Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Sara Wescott, Executive Director of K-12 Educational Services Dr. Lorena Sanchez, and Monroe Elementary Language Academy Principal César Loya. 
 
“GGUSD is honored to be recognized for our efforts to prepare students for success in a global society with our two-way dual language immersion program,” said Teri Rocco, Board of Education trustee.
 
Staff and faculty from Monroe Elementary Language Academy were also honored, including teachers Judith Au, Martha Ramirez, Sagrario Gil, and Elsa Aguilera, as well as secretary Letty Estrada and Bilingual Community Liaison Savina Dramitinos.
