Today, Garden Grove Unified School District's Board of Education took action to extend the suspension of in-person classes through Friday, May 8 with students returning on Monday, May 11.   The board also granted the superintendent authority to extend the closure in the future without calling for a special board meeting.

The board’s decision is in line with actions taken by other large urban school districts across the county and state and in accordance with the federal and state directive to prevent the spread of COVID-19 through social distancing.

“Recently, state and federal authorities have escalated efforts to fight the spread of coronavirus, including extending the stay-at-home order,” said Walter Muneton, Board of Education President.  “The board’s decision reflects our unwavering commitment to keep our community safe.”

GGUSD will continue to provide high-quality distance learning following its regularly-scheduled spring recess April 6-10. Families can find resources to support at-home learning at https://ggusd.us/covidresources.  Additionally, following the break GGUSD will continue to provide free meals to students through its Grab and Go meal program offered at 13 locations on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
