Weekly Reopening Update – August 28, 2020
Today, GGUSD students successfully completed their first full week of distance learning in the new 2020-2021 school year. School principals, teachers and staff were thrilled to see their students and create welcoming and engaging virtual classrooms during this time of distance learning.
Please know that we are here to support our students and families and we look forward to making this a great year. Last week, nearly 3,000 families attended our webinar to learn about GGUSD’s online distance learning platforms. If you missed it, click here for the video. As we approach week two of distance learning, it’s important to reach out if you have questions or concerns. Do not hesitate to contact your child(ren)’s teacher via email or ParentSquare or call the school’s main office for assistance. In addition to information you are receiving from your schools, please also visit https://ggusd.us/2020-21 for all of the latest district updates and resources.
Finally, we have received many calls about Orange County being removed from the state’s COVID monitoring list and what that means in terms of reopening schools for in-person instruction. Orange County must remain off the state’s watch list for 14 consecutive days, which, if the current trend continues, takes us just beyond Labor Day weekend. Meanwhile, county health officials are cautioning that transmission rates continue to exceed state thresholds in specific ZIP codes, creating localized hotspots in Orange County where in-person instruction may not be recommended at this time. Reopening for in-person instruction is a district decision, guided by the local health officer. Many factors must be considered, including, most critically, the health and safety of our students and staff. To that end, our district is working closely with the OC Health Care Agency to monitor community data and will seek guidance from the agency’s director to help determine when local conditions allow our district to safely resume in-person instruction with modified or hybrid models.
The past six months have represented an extraordinary time in our history, forcing educators and parents to familiarize themselves with the language and data used by epidemiologists and health experts. None of this has been easy, and we are empathetic to the understandable differences in opinions that have arisen as a result of this pandemic. One thing we can all agree on is our desire to welcome students back to safe and equitable learning environments, where they can engage with teachers and socialize with peers. We also want to do everything possible to protect the health of our valued teachers and staff members, and we must do our part to prevent our campuses from becoming widespread drivers of community transmission, which could reverse the progress we’ve made. For these reasons, we sent out a survey to our families on Wednesday to determine your perspective and will continue to closely follow the guidance of our public health partners, including the county Health Care Agency and the California Department of Public Health, and we will communicate next steps related to reopening as soon as possible. Hoy los alumnos del GGUSD terminaron exitosamente su primera semana completa de aprendizaje a distancia en el nuevo año escolar 2020-2021. Los directores escolares, maestros y el personal estaban muy emocionados de ver a sus alumnos y de crear salones virtuales acogedores e interactivos durante este tiempo de aprendizaje a distancia.

La semana pasada, casi 3,000 familias asistieron a nuestro seminario web para aprender acerca de las plataformas de aprendizaje a distancia en línea del GGUSD. Por último, hemos recibido muchas llamadas acerca de que el Condado de Orange haya sido removido de la lista de monitoreo del estado por el COVID y de lo qué eso significa con respecto a la reapertura de las escuelas para reanudar la enseñanza en persona. Por estas razones enviamos una encuesta a nuestras familias el día miércoles para determinar su perspectiva y continuaremos siguiendo atentamente la guía de nuestros socios de la salud pública, incluyendo la Agencia para el cuidado de la Salud del condado y el Departamento de Salud Pública de California, y les comunicaremos tan pronto como sea posible los siguientes pasos para la reapertura. Cập Nhật Hàng Tuần Về Việc Mở Trường Lại- Ngày 28 tháng 8, 2020
Ngày hôm nay các học sinh GGUSD đã hoàn tất tuần lễ đầu tiên học trên mạng của năm học mới 2020-2021. Các hiệu trưởng, giáo viên và nhân viên rất vui mừng gặp gỡ học sinh và tạo dựng các lớp học trên mạng để chào đón và khuyến khích học sinh tham gia trong thời gian học tại nhà.
Mong quý vị hiểu là chúng tôi luôn có mặt để hỗ trợ các học sinh cùng gia đình, và chúng tôi mong mỏi có một năm học với nhiều kết quả tốt đẹp. Tuần trước đã có gần 3,000 gia đình tham dự buổi hướng dẫn trên mạng của học khu về các nền mạng dùng trong việc học trên mạng ở nhà. Khi chúng ta bước vào tuần lễ thứ hai học trên mạng, điều cần thiết là quý vị liên lạc với nhà trường nếu có những quan tâm hay thắc mắc. Cuối cùng, nhiều quý vị đã gọi cho chúng tôi để nêu thắc mắc về việc Hạt Orange vừa được ra khỏi danh sách giám sát của tiểu bang về COVID-19 và điều này có liên quan như thế nào đến việc mở trường lại để giảng dạy trong lớp. Hạt Orange phải nằm ngoài danh sách giám sát của tiểu bang trong 14 ngày liên tiếp, nghĩa là kéo dài đến sau cuối tuần Lễ Lao Động nếu tình hình này tiếp tục được duy trì.
