Tip Tuesdays

Tuesday, October 12, 2021

Dear GGUSD Families,

GGUSD families have expressed interest in learning more about how to keep their children safe online. We will begin sharing “Tip Tuesdays” to provide parents and students with resources on the topic of digital citizenship and responsibility. Here are the first two messages that we will share with students over the next few weeks explaining the impact of a digital footprint and oversharing personal information online.

Your Digital Footprint

Hello GGUSD Students,

Are you being mindful of your online presence? Do you know what a digital footprint is? Many times, we don’t associate the online world with the real world. We tend to act differently, share more, and generally live differently online but it’s important to know that whether you’re online or offline, what you say and do matters.

The impact of what you say or do online can have very real consequences. Not to mention, online interactions and content can be searched for and found, even after deletion. People can also screenshot, save, and share your posts which can lead to serious repercussions for you.

The following video will help you better understand the importance of leaving a positive digital footprint. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg3gSNgaBm0

Teen Voices: Oversharing and Your Digital Footprint

Hello GGUSD Students,

How much are you sharing online? Are you being protective of your most private information? Oversharing on social media can lead to your safety being compromised. Remember not to overshare or provide details that will allow potentially dangerous people from being able to find out where you live, where you go to school, or where you hang out. This is especially important if you have a public profile.

It is also important to moderate what you share because anyone can share it, save it, and spread it far beyond where you intended it to go. Check out the following video that highlights the importance of not oversharing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ottnH427Fr8
