Garden Grove High School Teacher Receives Top Recognition

Garden Grove High School Teacher Quang Luong was one of five teachers across the state to be recognized as a 2022 Outstanding Teacher of America by the Above and Beyond organization. The Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education recognized Mr. Luong for this prestigious accolade at its Board of Education meeting January 17.

Mr. Luong was nominated for the award by a former student who is now a PhD student in Biotechnology and credits Mr. Luong for giving him his science voice, making learning relevant and inspiring him to pursue his dreams. 

“We are so proud of Mr. Luong for inspiring students to fulfill their potential and for making a lasting difference in the lives of the students he teaches,” said Board of Education Trustee Lan Nguyen.

At the Board Meeting, Above and Beyond Executive Director Beverly Young congratulated Mr. Luong on this honor and shared that most districts do not have even one teacher receive this prestigious recognition and Mr. Luong is Garden Grove Unified School District’s third honoree.

As part of the recognition, Mr. Luong was awarded a $20,000 grant from the organization, $5,000 of which will go toward Garden Grove High School.

The Above and Beyond organization was founded in 1987 and each year recognizes outstanding high school teachers who teach in disadvantaged urban and rural communities who consistently help their students transcend their academic expectations.
