GGUSD AVID Students Receive College Scholarships from Angels Baseball Foundation

AVID 8th Grade Standouts

Ten Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) students were recognized during the Orange County Department of Education’s AVID Eighth Grade Standout Ceremony held May 12 at Angel Stadium. GGUSD is proud to announce that two GGUSD students were selected as Angels Scholars and awarded $10,000 in college scholarships. This is a prestigious recognition that was only awarded to eight students across all of Orange County.

GGUSD’s Angels Scholars are Joseph Bui of Alamitos Intermediate School and Tiffany Tran of McGarvin Intermediate School. The $10,000 scholarship awarded to the Angels Scholars is contingent upon a commitment to remain in the AVID program for the four years in high school and receive acceptance to a four-year university.

“GGUSD’s AVID program continues to produce tremendous benefits for its students and we are thrilled to see our scholars receive this recognition and receive a head start on their college savings through the generosity of this scholarship from the Angels Baseball Foundation,” said Dina Nguyen, GGUSD Board of Education member.

The Angels Foundation generously gifted each of the Standouts with an HP laptop along with an Angels hat, certificate, and medal.  The ten Eighth Grade Standouts from GGUSD intermediate schools include:  Joseph Bui, Alamitos Intermediate; Chloe Rizk, Bell Intermediate; Delver Camacho, Doig Intermediate; Sarah Tran, Fitz Intermediate; Jazmin Vazquez, Irvine Intermediate; Alicia Dao, Jordan Intermediate; Lindsey Moya, Lake Intermediate; Tiffany Tran, McGarvin Intermediate; Kylee Nguyen, Ralston Intermediate; and Aiyanna Martinez, Walton Intermediate.
