The Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) Board of Education honored Athletes and Coaches of Character from each of the district’s eight high schools during its January 20 Board of Education meeting. Representing a diverse range of sports, these coaches and student-athletes play a vital role in strengthening GGUSD’s athletic programs by exemplifying integrity, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence.

GGUSD participates in 13 leagues - Coast, Crestview, Empire, Freeway, Golden West, Grove, Kappa, North Hills, Omnicron, Orange, Orange Coast, Sigma, and Tango Leagues and fields over 25 sports with nearly 5,700 high school athletes.

“These students consistently demonstrate the values we strive to instill across GGUSD,” said Board of Education President Bob Harden. “They rise to the challenge of balancing academics and athletics while modeling perseverance and positive sportsmanship.”

“Our coaches mentor, encourage and instill discipline and respect and create environments where students learn lessons that extend well beyond their sport,” said Harden.
