GGUSD Board of Education Congratulates its Classified Employees and Teachers of the Year

The Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education congratulates the district’s nine nominees for the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) 2020 Classified Employees of the Year program and 2021 Teachers of the Year program.

This year, GGUSD veteran bus driver Luis Cordon was selected as Orange County’s top finalist for Classified Employee of the Year in the Transportation category, making him eligible to compete for state honors.  Pacifica High School teacher Sarah Housepian was named a semi-finalist in the Teacher of the Year program.

“We are very proud of our nine nominees who are shining stars and consistently demonstrate the Garden Grove Way of putting students first,” said Walter Muneton, Board of Education president. “GGUSD has an exceptional culture that attracts the very best teachers and classified employees.

GGUSD’s six Classified Employee of the Year nominees include Lead Food Service Worker Erin Stanley in the Child Nutrition category; HVAC Technician Jimmy Faucett in the Maintenance, Operations and Facilities category; Personnel Secretary Trudy Kayano in the Office and Technical category; IBI Assistant Michelle Pick in the Para-Educator and Instructional Assistance category; School Community Liaison Linda Felix in the Support Services and Security Category; Bus Driver Luis Cordon in the Transportation Category.

GGUSD’s three Teacher of the Year nominees included Sarah Housepian, Pacifica High School; Angela Nguyen, Wakeham Elementary School; Ralph Lopez, Stanford Elementary.
