GGUSD Board of Education Holds Swearing-In Ceremony and Selects President and Vice President

At its December 15 meeting, the Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) Board of Education held a swearing-in ceremony for Dina Nguyen and Teri Rocco who were re-elected during the November 2020 election and Walter Muneton who was appointed to the position due to running unopposed.

The swearing-in ceremony was held during the Board of Education’s annual organizational meeting, which takes place each December to select the board’s president and vice president. The Board of Education voted to elect Lan Quoc Nguyen as president and Trustee Walter Muneton as vice president for 2021.

“As a GGUSD graduate and former teacher in the district, I have a deep-rooted love for our district and the families that we have the privilege to serve,” said Trustee Teri Rocco.

“I want to thank the community for their continued support as it is an honor to serve the district that I attended since kindergarten,” said Vice President Walter Muneton.

“I am humbled to continue serving on the school board and whole-heartedly believe that our district staff and the quality of education offered here is the very best,” said Trustee Dina Nguyen.

The five Board of Education members are elected by trustee area by voters of the district to serve four-year terms. Current members include Teri Rocco serving Trustee Area 1 through November 2024, Lan Nguyen serving Trustee Area 2 through November 2022, Bob Harden serving Trustee Area 4 through November 2022, Walter Muneton serving Trustee Area 3 through November 2024, and Dina Nguyen serving Trustee Area 5 through November 2024.

Among its many duties, the Board adopts the annual budget and approves all expenditures, establishes district policy, authorizes employment of personnel, approves curriculum textbooks and courses of study, and makes decisions on all contracts.

Regular meetings of the Board of Education are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month in the boardroom of the district's Education Center, 10331 Stanford Avenue, beginning at 7 p.m. Special meetings may be called when necessary; the agenda, location and time will be announced in advance.
