GGUSD Opens 2022-23 with Expanded Supports for Students and Families

Garden Grove Unified School District will begin the 2022-2023 school year on August 15 with a multitude of new and expanded programs to support students’ academic and social-emotional growth and increase family engagement.
“Year after year, GGUSD continually strives to strengthen existing programs and provide new opportunities to meet the needs of our students and our community,” said Board of Education President Bob Harden. “This year, the expansion of extended learning programs and mental health and wellness supports will be a significant focus at our schools districtwide.”
GGUSD is pleased to begin the 2022-2023 school year with:
- new before and after school extended learning opportunities for TK-12th grade including before-school academic supports at all comprehensive high schools, Monday through Friday beginning at 7:15 a.m., due to a new state requirement that the instructional day cannot begin before 8:30 a.m.
- expanded transitional kindergarten and preschool serving more students than ever before;
- the completion of $100 million in security improvements to school facilities;
- the expansion of our ASPIRE social work program to all schools, which includes 21 social workers and 30 mental health specialists;
- AVID strategies being implemented at all elementary, intermediate and high school campuses;
- expansion of Freshmen Success Initiative;
- more instructional aides in the classrooms;
- a focus on CTE pathways, Early College Academy and dual enrollment courses;
- continued athletic facility upgrades;
- a renewed focus on online safety with workshops for students and families; and
- full operation of four new Family Resource Centers for a total of 5 FRCs, one in each trustee area.
