GGUSD’s Allen Elementary School Named National Blue Ribbon School

Allen Elementary School

Allen Elementary School in the Garden Grove Unified School District was named a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School this week as an Exemplary High Performing School for overall academic success.  This is the second time Allen Elementary School received this prestigious award given to only 367 schools across the nation.

Exemplary High Performing Schools are recognized as among their state’s highest performing schools measured by state assessments.  Allen’s student population is evenly split between Gifted and Talented Education students from across the district and students from the surrounding neighborhoods. Overall, the school outperforms the county and state on rigorous state testing.

One of the key innovators driving success is a flexible learning environment that encourages collaboration as well as the school’s individualized homework policy which focuses on area of student need.

“We are proud of the staff and students of Allen Elementary School for creating an environment where scholars excel and continue to soar to new heights year after year,” said Board of Education Trustee Bob Harden.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, the coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Now in its 38th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed almost 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools, with some schools winning multiple awards. Schools are eligible for nomination after five years.

The 2020 National Blue Ribbon Schools Awards Ceremony will be held virtually Nov. 12 and 13.
