GGUSD Students Receive College Scholarships from Angels Baseball Foundation

Two Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) students, Alamitos Intermediate School student Nghi Hoang and Walton Intermediate School student Gia Le, were selected as Angels Scholars and awarded $10,000 in college scholarships from the Angels Baseball Foundation.  Students were recognized as Angels Scholars for their determination, grit and leadership.

The scholarship announcement is part of the annual AVID 8th Grade Standout Recognition organized by the Orange County Department of Education and supported by the Angels Baseball Foundation. Ten GGUSD students were recognized during the virtual ceremony held May 13. 

“GGUSD is grateful to the Angels Baseball Foundation for its continued partnership in recognizing our AVID students and supporting their college and career goals,” said GGUSD Board of Education Trustee Bob Harden.

The ten 8th Grade Standouts from GGUSD intermediate schools include: Nghi Hoang, Alamitos; Candace Nguyen, Bell; Evelyn Rivera, Doig; Alina Mendez, Fitz; Sophia Tran, Irvine; Natalie Vazquez, Jordan; David Islas, Lake; Therese Tran, McGarvin; Jocelyn Contreras, Ralston; and Gia Le, Walton. The Angels Foundation generously gifted each of the Standouts a Toshiba laptop along with an Angels hat and medal.

This year marks the 16th consecutive year GGUSD 8th graders have been recognized by the Angels Baseball Foundation, with a total of 35 8th grade students receiving scholarships during that time.
